Residents in Sedgefield are concerned after spotting an alarming amount of dead fish floating in the lagoon. The SANParks team of rangers have since collected them and found that only the Grunter species of fish had died.
SANParks scientist, Kyle Smith has collected water samples to test the levels of salinity in the water where most of the dead fish were collected.
Additional water samples were collected by rangers to test potassium levels in the water.
Although SANParks is bringing the Department of Agriculture, Forestry & Fisheries (DAFF) specialists onboard, Senior Section Ranger for Marine in the Wilderness section of the GRNP, Jonathan Britton, has warned citizens not to collect or eat the dead fish until investigations yield the source of the problem.
No other fish species were collected either than the Grunter.
