Movies and stage hypnotists have really confused people as to what hypnosis can achieve. A large number of people I speak to are fearful that I’m going to control their minds and make them do or be something they don’t want to be. An equal number of people think I can, or want me to, wave a magic wand, and create the changes they want in their lives.
Are either of these scenarios true? NO!!. I can’t make you do anything. I can teach you how, I can encourage, I can listen and advise, I can cheer when you start seeing improvements, but I can’t do it for you.
The truth is that if anyone wants to make changes in their lives, be it getting rid of old habits, improve their performance in sport or business, release the past or just learn to relax, the effort has to come from themselves.
Let’s face it, if I asked someone to train me to run Comrades and they said: ‘Sure Judy, you plop yourself down on the couch and watch TV while I train.” How would I benefit? How far would I get?
Well the same applies to healing. If you want permanent results, you have to make the effort to change. It means changing how you see yourself, changing how you talk to yourself, letting go of past beliefs and learning to imagine what you want in life instead of allowing fear and anxiety to control you.
So no, I’m not Svengali and I’m not Harry Potter! I do however have the skills and training to help you change the things in your life that you want to change.
So how can I help you?
There are several different treatments that I use, depending on what you want help with. Some need only one session, others, where the problem is more deep seated will take longer. Some methods use hypnosis, some don’t and sometimes I’ll use a combination. Each person is assessed individually because I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach.
The most basic which is suggestion therapy.
Suggestion therapy is excellent for getting rid of unwanted habits such as smoking, nail biting etc. It is also extremely effective for fears like exam nerves, fear of flying, fear of public speaking and so on.
I recently had a client who came to me the morning before she was due to MC at a conference. She was in a state of panic at having to make the opening speech, introduce guest speakers and make her own presentation. She asked me to help her get over her anxiety.
A few days later she reported back that the conference was a huge success and that she’d received multiple compliments from the delegates. She no longer fears public speaking and is now lecturing and loving it.
So what changed? During the session I helped her realise that if she allowed herself to imagine she was going to fail or make a fool of herself, the more likely it was that it would become a self fulfilling prophecy. She learnt how to imagine what it was she wanted – to believe in herself and her ability to be a huge success. And she was!
Exam season is upon us and students everywhere are starting to panic. Exams are scary! Well that’s the general consensus anyway. If you have studied your subject, there is no reason why you shouldn’t do well in the exam, but if the imagination starts thinking “What if I fail?”, “I’m not prepared.” “I’m never going to pass.” these negative thoughts cause the conscious mind to belive what is not true. One session of suggestion therapy can turn this around and take the stress out of exams.
If you are interested in a session to help relieve exam nerves, I’m offering an exam season special of R300 per session until the end of November.
