A partnership between Knysna Tourism and the 2014 Leisure Isle Festival committee has resulted in exciting plans for a much bigger, improved festival this year on 1 and 2 November.
Lorr Scalen, Leisure Isle Festival committee chairperson said that the Tourism office has brought enormous value to both the planning and marketing of the event.
We are going all out to grow and improve this years festival and have also unveiled new branding, including a new logo, and confirmed a new venue at Kingsway Park.
CEO of Knysna Tourism, Greg Vogt said that it has been a pleasure working with Lorr Scalen and her committee to find ways in which to add value to the festival through the experience and expertise of his team at Knysna Tourism, rather than handing out funds.
Says Vogt: Knysna hosts a number of different festivals and events annually which our office supports. We analyse each festival carefully beforehand to develop a strategic approach and a focussed partnership which will help grow the event and gain maximum exposure for the both the event and Knysna.
Scalen said that the festival would be given a complete face lift.
The arts component in particular is being revived and there will be improved crafts, better food, a proper beer garden, delicious teas, good music, and lots of kiddies activities, all of which will create a whole new ambience for the festival, she explained.
Its the festival we all love, but just so much better.
Knysna Tourism Marketing Manager Johan van Schalkwyk, who has been working with the festival committee together with colleague Glendyr Fick, said that he is excited by the new branding of the festival and the new logo which shows a stylised heron.
Its in tune with the Naturally Knysna brand and Im looking forward to seeing it in use. I have no doubt that the festival will boost our strategy to promote the town and create opportunities for local crafts people and businesses, he said.
I hope that residents of the greater Knysna area will save the dates to do their Christmas shopping at the festival. Apart from the fact that there will be unique, quality gifts to purchase, the festival makes a valuable contribution to local charities every year and deserves support.
Bookings for stallholders open on 11 August. Apply online or collect an application form from the Sothebys offices on Leisure Island.
