Judy Carter has been a resident in Knysna for 17 years. In 2008 she went to the United Kingdom where she worked for 4 years. While she was there, she studied and qualified in Clinical Hypnotherapy and Pure Hypnoanalysis as well as The Blowaway Technique for children.
Pure Hypnoanalysis and The Blowaway Technique have been used in the UK since the mid seventies and therefore have an unquestionable track record. “I’ve always had an interest in helping people overcome problems and what appealed to me about the method I use is the fact that I am merely a facilitator during the sessions – the healing comes from the clients themselves which in my opinion makes it much more powerful”, Judy explains.
Here’s Judy’s first article on Hypnotherapy:
What is Hypnosis?
Before I get into what hypnosis is, first I’d like to tell you what it isn’t…….
It isn’t magic, it isn’t scary, it isn’t in the least bit dangerous. I’m not going to wave a pocket watch in your face or click my fingers and say ‘sleep’. I’m not going to make you cluck like a chicken or run down the street barking and I am most definitely not going to take control of your mind.
Stage and television hypnotists have sadly created the illusion that the power lies in their hands and that they can cause anybody to do their bidding. Nothing could be further from the truth. Let’s face it, if it were really that easy, then why would they waste their time putting on shows night after night instead of merely wandering into the nearest bank, snapping their fingers and collecting vast amounts of money from the unsuspecting tellers?
So what is it?
Hypnosis is a deep state of relaxation in which the critical, constantly thinking conscious mind becomes quiet, allowing the sub-conscious mind to enter a state of heightened awareness. There is no mysterious trance or hypnotised feeling – some people feel heavy, some feel light and some feel nothing at all. You will be aware of exactly what’s being said and will remember everything. We all enter a natural state of hypnosis several times a day: Just before waking, just before sleeping, when engrossed in a good book, listening to music and when we are doing something that doesn’t require our full attention such as taking a shower or driving a familiar route.
What can hypnosis do for you?
Hypnosis is one of the most underutilised and powerful tools available for personal self development.
The conscious mind is our thinking, logical, critical mind. The subconscious mind holds our imagination, every memory or thought we’ve ever had and our self beliefs. When we hold negative self beliefs – such as ‘I’m fat and ugly, I’m stupid, I’m not good enough, I’ll never achieve anything – no matter what goals we set with our conscious mind, the subconscious will always override them because the imagination is so much more powerful than logical thought. Have you ever been watching a suspense movie and screamed when something scary happens? Your rational side knows you are safe on your couch with your feet up, but the power of your imagination allows you to feel the scary experience and rational thoughts go out the window.
The harder we try to change without seeing results, the more anxiety we create, the more anxious we become, the more negativity is created.
With Hypnosis you can tap into your own power, re-program your subconscious, switch the negative beliefs to positive, empowering ones, increase you ability to heal, manage pain, enhance creativity, improve athletic ability……… the possibilities are endless.
