Surfers from all over South Africa can look forward to the usual fun get together and lots of great competitions.
During the last years of his life, Ross Taylor’s chief concern was that some benefit for the world should come out of his cancer experience. He became obsessed with collecting vast amounts of information about his condition in the form of notes, webpages, personal videos and sound bytes with a view to one day collating everything into some sort of universally accessible and interactive social network. Later he gradually let go and allowed himself to become more involved with what he himself loved most… surfing, the ocean and giving back to the less fortunate.
Ross’ vision was that this annual contest should be done for the “FUN and LOVE” to raise money for Hospice. Ross made the request, to his friends and the organisers of the event, that the contest be run annually and that the funds raised here will be donated to Hospice.
Ross lived his life like a seventh wave putting more enthusiasm and energy into it than most people would in 2 lifetimes. Infecting everyone he met with huge enthusiasm and love of life, this was the beginning of a distinctly personal legacy, The Ross Taylor Surf Contest. His care for fellow man ensured that even after his death, through this contest, he continues to do so much good for others. It provides an opportunity for all to celebrate life, at the same time supporting a worthy charity.
